No. 9 New Mexico Military Institute upended NMJC in straight sets Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The Thunderbirds have faced a tough slate in the last two matches with NMJC falling on the road to No. 4 Odessa and No. 9 NMMI.
NMMI led 24-18 in the first set, but the T-Birds scored four straight to get back into the match at 24-22. A tip kill by the Broncos ended the set in favor of NMMI 25-22.
The Broncos eased into the second set winning 25-18. NMMI was ahead 22-19 in the third set and won the next three points to pick up their 18th win of the year.
Libero Lauren Shiplet led the way for NMJC on Wednesday with 20 digs. Sophomores Leticia Neves and Andjela Sojic had a team-high eight kills in the three-set loss.
Ava Kincaid and Deniz Akgul ended the night with seven kills each. Kincaid also pitched in 10 digs. Middle Duda Tonella added four blocks defensively against the Broncos.
The Thunderbirds fell to 12-11 (3-4) on the year and will face Frank Phillips on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. CDT in Borger, Texas.
