Hart leads Thunderbirds past Howard
Big Spring, TEXAS
The New Mexico Junior College Men's basketball team poured it on early, jumping out to an 18-0 lead on the home team Howard Hawks before eventually holding on to win 88-79.
Jalin Hart poured in 19 points accompanied with four steals and three assists. Randy Haynes added 17 points. Nnamdi Okoro and Xabier Gomez chipped in 14 and 13 points respectively.
The Thunderbirds outrebounded the smaller Hawks 39-35. The Hawks were able to close the gap and get within seven late in the second half thanks in large part to 26 Thunderbird turnovers.
The Thunderbirds travel home to take on Odessa College on Thursday. NMJC is currently all alone in first place (7-1) with Odessa sitting in second (6-2). Odessa defeated NMJC before the Christmas break. A win by the Thunderbirds will put them up two games on the rest of the league.
