4-0 Tbirds dismantle Adams State JV
Hobbs, NEW MEXICO (November 5, 2015) -
The New Mexico Junior College Men's Basketball team opened up the HydroTech Classic by putting the smack down on an outmanned Adams State University JV team 114-46.
Defensively, the Thunderbirds held the Grizzlies to 25% shooting from the field and 14.8% from behind the arc. Sophomore, Devin Wyatt, led the way blocking a career high eight shots while gathering twelve rebounds, eight of those coming on the offensive glass. Freshman, El Hadji Dieng (Fa), also had 12 rebounds. The Thunderbirds out rebounded the Grizzlies 67-26.
NMJC forced 19 Grizzly turnovers on the night and turned those extra possessions into points, outscoring Adams State 28-7 in that category.
While Wyatt and Dieng were taking care of the defense, sophomore, Tyler Blount and freshman, Xabier Gomez (Chabby) led four Thunderbirds in double digit scoring.
Blount, poured in a game high 22 points in only 20 minutes of action, knocking down six of 10 shots from the field including four of seven from behind the arc. Gomez was equally impressive from the field as he too knocked down six of 10 from the field and five of his seven three-point attempts.
Freshman Xavier Jackson saw his first start of the season and answered the call by scoring 16 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and three steals. Emmanuel Ansah had another impressive showing coming off the bench to score 13.
Next up for the Thunderbirds is McCook Community College. The Indians make the trip to Hobbs with a 2-0 record averaging 100 points per game. Game time is 7:00 P.M. at Caster Activity Center. Fans are encouraged to bring a can of food to donate to the Salvation Army. Those that bring a donation will receive a discounted ticket at the door.
