NMJC (W-Golf) Finishes Runner-up at WTC Spring Invite
The Thunderbirds finished runner-up at the WTC Spring Invite on Tuesday, April 21.
Odessa College shot 14-over to win the final tournament before districts. The T-Birds were second at 51-over par at 319-308 in the cool weather. Napajira Luesattha of Odessa College won the individual title at 1-over par.
Freshman phenom Tova Sandren was tied for second at 5-over par. She shot 4-over and a 1-over 73 over 36 holes of play en route to a runner-up finish. Sandren's successes this week were all across the leaderboard as she led in par-5 scoring at 2-under, was third in par-4 scoring, and eighth in par-3 scoring.
Giuliana Frutos tied for 10th place at 13-over after shooting an 8-over 80 and a 5-over 77. Frutos was fourth in par-3 scoring this week at 1-over par.
Sophie Brothwood finished alongside Frutos at Sammy Baugh GC in a tie for 10th place. She fired a 6-over 78 in Round 1 and a 7-over 79 in Round 2. The freshman was 13-over and was third in par-5 scoring this week at 1-under.
Freshman Megan Dawson had a tough 36 holes on the course opening with a 13-over 85 and then shooting an 8-over 80 to finish 19th at 21-over par.
Ella Cornwell's rounds were a tale of two days. The first round did not go to plan with a 16-over 88. She found form in Round 2 posting a 7-over 79 to finish the tournament in a tie for 20th place at 23-over par.
Stefany Crozier-Hunt was the top individual at 15-over in Snyder, Texas. She shot an 8-over 80 in Round 1 and a 7-over 79 in Round 2. Crozier-Hunt finished in 13th place to end the tournament.
Dear Phermthongmak tied for 14th place following rounds of 83 and 78 to finish at 17-over. Jordyn Cruz placed 18th after posting rounds of 83 and 80 to finish the tournament at 19-over. Ronja Nordell shot 84 and 86 over 36 holes to place 23rd at 26-over. Zoe Munoz recorded a 101 and 89 in her two rounds to end the week in 34th place at 46-over.
The Thunderbirds next event is the Southwest District Championship in Weatherford, Texas April 27-29 at Canyon West GC.
