T-Bird (W-Golf) Finishes Runner-up in Ruidoso

The T-Bird women's golf team finished runner-up at the High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, NM on Tuesday, Sept. 23. 

Odessa College won the tournament at 14-over par while NMJC was second at 32-over. View Udkanmtiang of Odessa earned the individual victory at 1-over.

Megan Dawson was the top finisher for NMJC this week at 4-over par. Dawson opened with a 2-over 73 in Round 1. The freshman made five birdies in a row in her final round to shoot a 2-over 73 and finish T-3. Dawson was second in par-5 scoring and par-3 scoring. 

Tova Sandren was two shots behind Dawson at 6-over par. The sophomore's first round was a 1-over 72 and in her final round she shot 76 to place sixth in the tournament. Sandren led the field in par-5 scoring at 5-under. 

Freshman Dear Phermthongmak shot 76-73 in 36 holes at Alto Lakes CC. The freshman ended the tournament at 7-over in a tie for seventh place.  

Sophomore Giuliana Frutos finished T-20 this week following rounds of 78-79 to shoot 15-over. Freshman Ella Cornwell competed in her first match with NMJC shooting back-to-back 81s. Cornwell rounded out the team score finishing 27th at 20-over par. 

Chase Fields made her debut with the T-Birds shooting 19-over in 36 holes. Fields led the NMJC individuals finishing the week T-25 after posting rounds of 83-78. Sophomore Stefany Crozier shot 82-81 to finish T-28 at 21-over. 

Jordyn Cruz posted 23-over following rounds of 88-77 to finish in 34th place. Ronja Nordell tied for 37th place shooting 28-over with rounds of 86-84. Sophomore Zoe Munoz shot 88-94 to finish T-48 at 40-over. 

The Thunderbirds next match is Sept. 29-30 at the WT Women's Invitational in Amarillo, TX at La Paloma Course at Tascosa GC. The B-Team will also will play in the Battling in the Desert at Rockwind Community Links Sept 29-30.
