Thunderbird (WBB) Dominates Wranglers on Road
NMJC women's basketball stomped Odessa College 85-60 on Monday, Feb. 2.
The T-Birds raced out to a 21-5 lead after one quarter of play. The Thunderbirds extended their lead to 37-17 at the break. NMJC outscored the Wranglers in all four quarters on their way to a 25-point win on Monday.
Four of the five starters scored in double figures against Odessa.
Sophomore guard Jada Graves had another great game on the floor registering 20 points, seven assists, and three steals. Graves has scored 20 or more points in eight of her 21 games this season. Zarai Lewis was impressive, scoring 17 points and chipping in four rebounds.
Kaycee Steinke reached double figures with 11 points on 3-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Addison Edwards posted 12 points and grabbed six boards.
Bright Eze had 10 first half rebounds and finished with 13 rebounds in the game. Luisa Amaral came off the bench to register seven points.
The T-Birds shot 33-for-64 (51.6%) from the field, 6-of-19 (31.6%) from the 3-point line, and 13-of-20 (65%) from the charity stripe. NMJC forced 25 turnovers and held the Wranglers to 38.1% from the field.
Monday night was the highest field goal percentage for the T-Birds all year and the first time NMJC has shot above 50% from the field this season.
The No. 9 Thunderbirds move to 18-3 (5-2) on the year and will face Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas Monday, Feb. 9 at 5:45 p.m. CST.
