Lady Thunderbirds drop road loss
The New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team lost for just the second time this season as the Lady Thunderbirds fell to Dallas Dielsl 100-91 in overtime on Saturday at the Western Texas Classic.
NMJC's other loss this season was an 86-80 defeat to the same squad on Nov. 12 at the South Plains Classic Tournament.
"In overtime, we turned the ball over a couple of times and they got some easy run-outs," Lady T-Birds head coach Drew Sanders said. "It completely changed the momentum of the game. They were able to finish the game off."
Daiane Machado and Laurynn McGowen led NMJC (7-2) with 18 points each, while Dezirae Hampton scored 15 and Alarie Mayze chipped 13 points. The only other Lady T-Bird in double figures was Ni'Asia McIntosh with 10 points."
"It was a game of two halves," Sanders said. "They dominated the second quarter and established a 16-point lead. We came back out in the third quarter and cut that lead to six and then tied the game. We missed two layups in the last minute and a half that would have put us up two."
NMJC continues it's road trip Monday with a 5:30 p.m. (CST) contest at Temple College.
