Tbirds overcome halftime deficit to beat South Plains
Hobbs, NEW MEXICO
The South Plains Texans Women's basketball team came out swinging but could never deal the knockout blow in the first half leading by as many as 10 in the first quarter. The 8th ranked Thunderbirds withstood the attack and closed the halftime deficit to to four at 27-23 to eventually adjust at halftime and come out with a 65-55 victory and season sweep of the Texans.
Sophomore point guard Alana da Silva turned in a game high 22 points knocking down 2-of-3 from deep and all six of her freethrows. She also added a team high four assists. Freshman Dezirae Hampton added 10 points and five boards from her shooting guard position.
The Thunderbirds used a dominating third period to take control of the game as they outscored the Texans 18-7 and never looked back.
Up next for the Thunderbirds is a road trip to Clarendon on Thursday to face the Bulldogs, whom they defeated at home on January, 11 by a score of 115-54.
