No. 9 NMJC crushes Clarendon
Hobbs, NEW MEXICO
The No. 9 ranked New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team put on a clinic on Monday night at Caster Activity Center as they defeated the Clarendon College Bulldogs 115-54.
Sophomore Blair Richmond was in the zone and pumped in a career high 28 points knocking down 8-of-9 from behind the arc. Richmond showed the form that so many of the Thunderbird faithful remember from her freshman campaign two years ago.
Fresh off back-to-back player of the week honors, freshman Shaniya Mitchell continued her brilliant start to the second half of the season as she added a double-double with 21 points and a game high 13 rebounds.
Freshman Ashley Perez turned in the best game of her career with 16 points, three assists and three steals while Dezirae Hampton scored 15 points and dished out seven assists, sharing game high honors in that category with Alana da Silva who also finished in double digit points with 10.
The Thunderbirds shot a season high 64% from behind the arc knocking down 14-of-22 attempts. They out rebounded the bulldogs 40-20 and forced them into 25 turnovers, 17 of which came via the steal.
NMJC remained at No. 9 in this weeks NJCAA Poll setting up a big showdown with conference rival and No. 10 ranked Midland College on Monday, January 18. The game on Monday will be a RED OUT and the first 100 fans to the game will receive the official Red NMJC Athletics Game Day T-shirt. Tip off is set for 5:45 P.M.
