Thunderbirds remain perfect in conference; defeat Lady Texans
Levelland, TEXAS
The New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team took their 11 game winning streak into a key early season conference matchup with the South Plains Lady Texans. The Thunderbirds started the game on an 11-1 run and ended the half down by eight and eventually came back with a strong second half and won 73-68.
The Thunderbirds were led for the second consecutive game by Shaniya Mitchell who came in off the bench to score a team high 20 points to go along with 6 caroms. Joining Mitchell in double figures was Camille Mills with 14 points to go along with a game high three steals. Daiane Machado had 13 points and seven rebounds and Dezirae Hampton added 10 points.
Defensively, the Thunderbirds outrebounded the Lady Texans 36-29 and forced 14 turnovers.
On Monday, January 11th, the Thunderbirds will play host to the Clarendon Bulldogs, who was the last WJCAC rival to defeat the Thunderbirds. NMJC will be looking for revenge and to keep their 12 game winning streak in tact. Tip off is scheduled for 5:45 P.M.
