Home sweet Home; Tbirds cruise past WTC
Hobbs, NEW MEXICO (November 5, 2015)
Finally a home game. That's what the 9th ranked New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team had been waiting for, for over a month, and they returned to the friendly confines of Caster Activity Center to post a 30 point win against the 11-2 Western Texas Westerners, 88-58.
Alana da Silva and Daiane Machado each scored 18 points to lead the Thunderbirds. da Silva was an efficient 7-of-8 from the field and knocked down all three of her attempts from behind the arc to go along with a team high five assists and three steals. Nycolle Smith posted her fourth double-double of the season as she went for 15 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
The Thunderbirds held the Westerners to 34% shooting from the field and out rebounded them 39-27. NMJC flexed their muscle and depth outscoring WTC 42-16 in the paint and 51-9 in bench points.
The Thunderbirds finish the first part of their schedule 14-2 and begin defense of their conference title with a 2-0 start. They are off for Christmas Break and will return to action on January 1-2, 2016 as they host the Thunderbirds Classic.
