Thunderbirds cruise past Southwest Christian

The New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team played their first of twelve consecutive road games on Friday at the South Plains Classic, running away early to defeat Southwestern Christian College 89-48.
The pressure defense of the Thunderbirds was in full display as they created 32 Ram turnovers with 21 of them coming via a steal and out rebounding them 44-26. Freshman, Shaniya Mitchell scored 16 points and led the defensive charge by gathering a career high seven steals to go along with nine rebounds.
Offensively, Blair Richmond led they way coming off the bench to pour in 18 points and lead four Thunderbirds in scoring. Natalia Gwarda scored a career high 12 points and gathered four caroms while Nycolle Smith chipped in 11 points.
The Thunderbirds are back in action at the South Plains Classic on Saturday as they will take on LSU-Eunice at Noon at the Texan Dome.
