Sophomore is second in first teamer in program history
New Mexico Junior College sophomore Angelica de Paulo was named NJCAA First-Team All-American when the teams were released Tuesday – becoming just the second Lady Thunderbird to receive First-Team All-American honors.
The 6-foot-1 de Paulo is the first NMJC women's player to receive the honor since Nicole McCrimmon during the 1991-92 season.
The Brazilian sophomore led NMJC in scoring at 16.5 points per game and also averaged 6.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks. Her 546 points this season is the third most in single-season NMJC history while her 736 career points is 13th in Lady T-Bird history.
She helped NMJC to one of its best seasons in program history as the Lady T-Birds went 29-4, won the WJCAC for the fourth year in a row, won the Region V Tournament and qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
de Paulo was the only WJCAC player to be named to any of the All-American teams.
