No. 4 Lady T-Birds' win streak snapped by Midland
NMJC still holds a two-game lead in WJCAC
MIDLAND, Texas — The fourth-ranked New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team had its 13-game winning streak snapped by Midland College 58-54 Monday at the Chaparral Center.
The Lady T-Birds (24-2, 11-1) held a 22-21 halftime lead before being outscored 37-32 in the final 20 minutes.
While both teams struggled shooting (NMJC shot 30.4 percent, Midland 26.7 percent), the Lady Chaps (18-9, 9-3) outrebounded the Lady T-Birds 54-39 – including grabbing 17 offensive rebounds.
The free-throw line was also a big difference as Midland was 19-for-26 from the line while NMJC shot 9-for-12.
Kelsey Criner paced NMJC with 15 points and five assists while Angelica de Paulo had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Tajanay Veiga led Midland with 18 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and going 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.
NMJC at 11-1 in conference still holds a two-game lead over Midland and a three-game advantage over Odessa College.
NMJC hosts Howard College on Monday.
