No. 10 Lady T-Birds' defense shines in win over South Plains
NMJC wins its fifth-straight game
LEVELLAND, Texas — The 10th-ranked New Mexico Junior College women's basketball team jumped out to a big lead, never trailed and cruised to a 67-40 win over South Plains College on Saturday at the Texas Dome.
The Lady Thunderbirds (16-1 overall, 3-0 WJCAC) raced out to a 42-19 lead at the half behind a strong defensive effort and never looked back. The Lady T-Birds' defense held South Plains (7-11, 2-1) to 19.6 percent shooting from the field in the contest while NMJC shot 51.8 percent.
"It was a tale of two halves," NMJC coach Drew Sanders said. "In the first half we played unbelievable defense and we were able to get a lot of run outs. We took care of the ball really well."
Antoina Robinson led NMJC with 19 points while Kelsey Criner had 10 points and six rebounds while Angelica de Paulo and Alana da Silva had nine points apiece.
NMJC hosts Odessa College 5:45 p.m. Monday.
