T-Bird (MBB) Picks Up Win Over Bulldogs
NMJC men's basketball got back on track with an 86-67 win over Clarendon College on Thursday, Jan. 15.
The T-Birds started hot, knocking down four straight 3-pointers to begin the game. A free throw in between and a Delang Muon layup gave NMJC a 15-5 lead at the 15:42 mark.
NMJC extended the lead to 18 points at the break leading 39-21. The T-Birds made seven 3-pointers in the first half.
The Thunderbirds outscored the Bulldogs by one point in the second half. They shot better from the field, going 13-of-28 (46.4%) and 16-of-18 (88.9%) from the charity stripe.
The turnovers were a problem in the second half with NMJC committing 17. Despite the turnovers NMJC ended up taking down the Bulldogs by 19 points.
RJ Nance and Ladji Coulibaly led the team in scoring with 16 points each. Coulibaly also pulled in a game-high 13 rebounds to register his second double-double of his career.
Sophomore guard Kemauri Millender finished with 13 points. Michael Mackey was the fourth T-Bird in double figures with 12 points. Grigorije Avramovic finished the night with a team-high seven assists.
The T-Birds shot 27-for-67 (40.3%) from the field, 12-of-43 (27.9%) from the 3-point line, and 20-of-24 (83.3%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 21 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to 36.7% from the field and 16.7% from 3-point range. .
The No. 15 Thunderbirds improve to 15-2 (2-1) on the year and will face No. 18 South Plains in Levelland, Texas Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CST.
