T-Bird (MBB) Takes Down North Platte
The No. 17 Thunderbirds knocked off a pesky North Platte team 82-70 on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
NMJC struggled with turnovers in the first half recording 10. However, they never trailed in the first half leading by as many as 13 points. The T-Birds went into the break ahead 45-33. The Knights cut into the lead out of halftime going on a 12-5 run in the first five minutes of play.
A Delang Muon 3-pointer and a Marquan Harris layup pushed the T-Bird lead back to double digits, 60-49 with 10:37 left. The Knights went on a quick 7-0 run to bring North Platte within four points, 60-56, at the 8:30 mark.
NMJC quelled the Knights' charge with a 12-0 run to cool North Platte and put them out of reach 72-56 with 6:00 minutes left in the game. The Thunderbirds finished off North Platte by 12 points, 82-70.
NMJC ended the night with five players in double figures during Tuesday's win.
Sophomore Delang Muon posted a team high 14 points and five rebounds. RJ Nance recorded 13 points while Garrison Phelps grabbed eight rebounds.
Kemauri Millender scored 12 points and added four assists. Grigorije Avramovic tied his career high in assists with five for the second straight game.
Center Ladji Coulibaly finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Kenny Fields registered 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The T-Birds shot 27-for-60 (45%) from the field, 10-of-32 (31.3%) from the 3-point line, and 18-of-27 (66.7%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 15 turnovers and held the Knights to 35.8% from the field.
The No. 17 T-Birds move to 12-1 and will face University of Arkansas Cossatot Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. MST in Hobbs, NM.
