Huge Starts Propels NMJC (MBB)
NMJC men's basketball took down Murray State 92-75 on Saturday, Nov. 28 thanks to a huge first half by sophomore guard RJ Nance.
The Thunderbirds used an 18-0 run in the first 4:00 of play to control the game from the opening tip.
Nance went 3-for-3 during that run and started the first half going 4-for-4. Nance finished the game with a career-high 26 points.
NMJC went into the half ahead by 19 points, 52-33. Murray State press stifled the T-Birds in the second half leading to an influx of turnovers that saw the Aggies outscore NMJC 42-40 in the final period. NMJC plateaued, winning by 17 points Friday night.
Xavier Perry was the other T-Bird to finish in double figures. The guard finished with 14 points off the bench. Center Ladji Coulibaly ended the game with a career-high 15 rebounds and nine points. Garrison Phelps was solid all night scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds.
The T-Birds shot 31-for-66 (46.3%) from the field, 11-of-33 (33.3%) from the 3-point line, and 19-of-25 (76%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 27 turnovers and held the Aggies to 42.6% from the field. The Thunderbirds did struggle with turnovers themselves with 27.
The No. 22 T-Birds improve to 9-0 and will face Collin College Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. CST in Plano, Texas at the Collin County Classic.
