T-Bird (MBB) Shoots Down Thunderducks by 40
NMJC men's basketball smoked the Dallas College Richland Thunderducks by 40 points, 94-54, on Thursday, Nov. 20.
The No. 23 ranked T-Birds raced out to a 14-4 lead to start the game against the Richland. They took a 20-point lead, 30-10, at the 6:43 mark of the first half after an 11-0 run. NMJC went into halftime ahead of Richland 49-22.
The second half was not much better for Richland as the T-Birds held them to 0-7 from beyond the arc. T-Bird guard Kemauri Millender scored nine of his 16 points in the second half. The T-Birds expanded their lead to as many as 41 points and went on to win comfortably 94-54.
"The guys did a fantastic job today working to get NMJC a shot, not so much getting themselves a shot but to give us a shot and that was reflected in our shooting percentage and scoring 94 points," NMJC men's basketball head coach Luke Mackay said. "They really played together and then on the defensive end having guys like Ladji, Delang, Francois, and Garrison. Those big athletic guys make it easy for our defense."
The Thunderbirds finished with four players in double figures on Thursday.
Delang Muon, RJ Nance, and Xavier Perry all had 10 points each against the Thunderducks. Freshman Ladji Coulibaly finished the night with nine points, seven rebounds, and four blocks. Garrison Phelps and Yanel Datilus came off the bench registering six rebounds each.
The T-Birds shot 27-for-62 (43.5%) from the field, 10-of-35 (28.6%) from the 3-point line, and 30-of-34 (88.2%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 18 turnovers, held the Thunderducks to 36.8% from the field, and 6.3% (1-of-16) from 3-point land.
No. 23 NMJC has won 25 of their last 26 home games inside the Caster Activity Center.
The Thunderbirds jump to 7-0 and will face NOK Tonkawa Saturday, Nov. 22 at 12 p.m. MST in Hobbs, NM.
