NMJC (MBB) Moves to 6-0
The Thunderbirds remain undefeated handing Seward County their first loss of the season 81-68 on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The T-Birds were locked in a tight game in the first half. NMJC led 30-25 with under three minutes to play when Seward countered with a 6-0 run to take the 31-30 lead. Sophomore guard Michael Mackey nailed a 3-pointer with seven seconds to play to push NMJC back in front at the break, 33-31.
The turning point in the second half was a massive one-handed slam by NMJC forward Delang Muon with 9:25 remaining in the game that made the score 55-48. The dunk brought the crowd to their feet and Seward was unable to regain any momentum the rest of the way falling 81-68.
RJ Nance had a game-high 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Kenny Fields came off the bench and scored 15 points in 23 minutes of action.
Michael Mackey and Francois Nkoy-Eale recorded eight points each. Garrison Phelps ended the afternoon with seven rebounds and four assists.
The T-Birds shot 29-for-69 (42%) from the field, 11-of-31 (35.5%) from the 3-point line, and 12-of-20 (60%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 25 turnovers and held the Saints to 38% from the field.
The Thunderbirds move to 6-0 and will face Dallas College Richland Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. MST in Hobbs, NM.
