T-Bird (MBB) Drops Home Game to Frank
The NMJC men's basketball team scored a season-low 60 points Thursday night in a 74-60 loss to Frank Phillips College.
The Thunderbirds had a great start to the game against Frank with NMJC 10 points in front 16-6 at the 11:35 mark. Frank chipped away at the lead and tied up the score at 22 with 6:00 left in the half. The Plainsmen ended the second half on a 9-3 run to grab a 31-25 lead.
Francois Nkoy-Eale's layup with 18:19 left in the second half brought the T-Birds deficit to a one-possession game 31-29. NMJC trailed by only five points, 53-48, following a Nkoy-Eale's dunk with 7:17 left in the game.
The Plainsmen ran away with it going on a 12-3 run over the next 3:30 to extend their lead to 14 points, 65-51. The Plainsmen went on to knock off NMJC 74-60.
Five out of the last six games have been against ranked opponents or formerly ranked opponents.
Sophomore guard Jannoy Thomas scored a team-high 20 points off the bench shooting 6-for-10 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Isaiah Alexander finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Garrison Phelps ended the night with eight rebounds.
The T-Birds shot 16-for-51 (31.4%) from the field, 3-of-22 (13.6%) from the 3-point line, and 25-of-30 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
The Thunderbirds are tied for fifth in the WJCAC standings at 2-4 behind first place Midland College who sits at 6-0.
The T-Birds fall to 16-4 (2-4) and will play New Mexico Military Institute 6-13 (1-5) in Hobbs, NM on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. MST.
