McLaughlin's Career-High Propels T-Birds to Sweep
Logan McLaughlin finished the afternoon with a career-high 22 points and four rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting from three in the 100-80 win over in-state foe New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI).
The T-Birds dominated from the opening whistle outscoring the Broncos 33-15 in the 12:30 of play. NMJC entered halftime leading 54-32. The Thunderbirds went on to beat the Broncos wire-to-wire 100-80. The win gave NMJC the series sweep over NMMI.
Center Jeremiah Cherry finished with his seventh double-double of the season scoring 17 points, while adding a career-high 14 rebounds. Micah Jones scored 15 points on the night. The sophomore guard's three treys put him in a tie with Malique Trent for the school record in all-time single-season three-point makes at 82.
Freshman Cameron Harris sparked the T-Birds with a career-high 20 points off the bench on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from three-point territory in just 19 minutes of play.
Josh Nwankwo was a rebound shy of his first career double-double as he scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the 20-point win.
The T-Birds shot 30-of-60 (50%) from the field, 14-for-29 (48.3%) from the three-point line, and 26-of-37 (70.3%) from the charity stripe.
The Thunderbirds move to 12-16 on the year and 5-9 in conference. NMJC will play Frank Phillips College Monday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM.
