T-Birds Win Last Home Game of The Season
The T-Birds played their last home game of the season last night against the Howard Hawks in Caster Activity Center. The T-Birds beat the Hawks by 11.
Sophomore Tommy Chatman kicked off the game with a 3-pointer for the T-Birds just 20 seconds into the game. After a layup by sophomore Dario Domingos, Chatman sank another 3-pointer just 2 minutes later putting the T-Birds ahead 8-3 with 16 minutes remaining in the first half. The Hawks responded with a 3-pointer by Jacoby Bishop which put the Hawks in the lead by just 1-points, 9-8. That was the only lead the Hawks would have on the T-Birds Thursday night. After a 3 by freshman Elijah Hoard, Tommy Chatman made two more 3-pointers for the T-Birds. Chatman made four 3-pointers total within the first 10 minutes of the game. With six minutes left in the first half, sophomore Josaphat Bilau made a jumpshot to put the T-Birds up 25-15. After two more free throws by Tommy Chatman and Elijah Beard and a dunk from Josaphat Bilau, the T-Birds went into halftime on top of the Hawks 38-25.
Lead scorer in the first half for the T-Birds was Tommy Chatman with 17 points, 15 of those coming from 3-pointers. Dario Domingos scored 4 points in the first half followed by Elijah Beard, sophomore Jordan Booker, and Elijah Hoard with 3 points each.
The T-Birds maintained their lead in the second half, but the Hawks were able to shorten it. With 14 minutes left in the game the Hawks made a layup followed by a free throw to put them behind the T-Birds by only 6 points, 39-45. The Hawks went on to score a 3-pointer by Nestor Dyachok putting the score at 42-45. This was not enough for the Hawks as the T-Birds continued to outscore them. The T-Birds scored four more 3-pointers in the reamining 10 minutes along with several free throws from Jordan Booker, Mouhamed Mbaye, and Dario Domingos. The T-Birds ended the game with a win against the Hawks by 11 points, 75-64. The T-Birds are now 8-6 in WJCAC conference play.
Top scorer for the T-Birds was Tommy Chatman with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Following Chatman was Jordan Booker with 13 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds. Other T-Birds scoring double digits were Elijah Beard with 12 points, Mouhamed Mbaye with 11 points, and Dario Domingos with 10 points.
The T-Birds will play Frank Phillips College next on Monday, February 21st in Borger, TX at 5PM MST.
