NMJC T-Birds Beat Midland College at Home
The T-Birds played the Midland Chaparrals on Friday in Caster Activity Center after their Thursday game was canceled due to bad weather. The T-Birds beat the Chaparrals by 11.
The T-Birds scored 33 points in the first half compared to the Chaparrals 20. Freshman Dario Domingos put the T-Birds on the board with a layup. With 10 minutes left in the first half, the T-Birds were ahead of the Chaps 20-9. The Chaps could not shorten that lead as they remained 10 points behind the T-Birds for the remainder of the first half. The T-Birds went into halftime ahead of the Chaps by 13, 33-20.
Domingos led the team in the first half with 7 points, 3 of those from free throws. Following Domingos in points are freshmen Mouhamed Mbaye and Elijah Beard with 6 points each. Sophomores Tommy Chatman and Jordan Booker put up 5 points each.
The T-Birds maintained a 10 point lead the entire second half against the Chaps. After a layup and a free throw made by Mouhamed Mbaye the T-Birds were up by 15, 53-38, with only 7 minutes left in the game. In those remaining 7 minutes the T-Birds continued to outscore the Chaps, ending the game in a T-Bird win with a final score of 69-58. The T-Birds are now 6-4 in WJCAC conference play.
Top scorer for the game is Mouhamed Mbaye with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Following Mbaye in points is Tommy Chatman with 14 points. Elijah Beard, Dario Domingos, and Jordan Booker all contributed 9 points each.
The T-Birds will be on the road for their next match up against Western Texas College on February 7th at 7:30PM MST. They will be back at home on Thursday, February 10th, to play South Plains College in Caster Activity Center.
