The No. 20 NMJC baseball team won both Friday games against Dodge City CC on Feb. 27.
Game 1
The T-Birds took down Dodge City 10-9 in Game 1 thanks to a 6-run sixth inning.
NMJC trailed 5-4 to the Conqs headed into the sixth inning. The Thunderbirds loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning when Casen Savage hit a 2-run double as another run scored via a throwing error to make it 7-5 NMJC. The T-Birds continued scoring on an RBI single by Roman Trinidad, an RBI triple by Mejias, and an RBI double by Mekhi Brewer that pushed the Thunderbird lead to 10-5 after six innings.
Dodge City gave the T-Birds a scare in the top of the seventh chipping away the lead with a solo homer, an RBI single, and a 2-run home run to pull within a run 10-9 with two outs.
Dyllan Thiebaud came in relief of Brandon Stewart and shut the door on the Conqs with a 3-pitch strikeout.
Center fielder Casen Savage went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, three RBIs, and three runs scored. DH Jesus Mejias was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. First baseman Mekhi Brewer went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Sergio Lugo started for NMJC going three innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits. Brandon Stewart picked up his second win of the year after throwing 3.2 innings and allowing five earned runs. Dyllan Thiebaud notched his second save of the year.
NMJC finished Game 1 with 12 hits and two errors.
Game 2
NMJC made quick work of the Conquistadors in Game 2 run ruling Dodge 15-5 in five innings.
The Conqs went out in front immediately after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Roman Trinidad and Talan Barraza brought the big bats in the bottom of the first, both hitting 2-run shots. NMJC ended the first inning with the lead 7-2.
The T-Birds added three runs in the bottom of the second inning grabbing a 10-2 lead. Then in the third inning Jesus Mejias hit a grand slam which made the advantage 14-2 after three innings of play.
A 3-run homer in the top of the fifth inning by Dodge City made it 14-5. Javier Diaz drove in the winning run in the sixth as the T-Birds took down the Conqs 15-5 in run rule fashion.
Third baseman Javier Diaz was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. First baseman Mekhi Brewer was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Shortstop Talan Barraza was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Roman Trinidad and Jesus Mejias each had a home run with Trinidad driving in two and Mejias driving in four on the slam.
Starter Andrew DeLeon earned his fourth win of the season on Friday. The freshman threw three innings allowing two earned and four hits. Kyle Moczygemba went 1.1 innings of relief, striking out two and giving up zero hits.
NMJC ended Game 2 with 13 hits and no errors.
