TBirds fare well at season opening meet
Jebet & Sosa lead Tbirds
LUBBOCK, Texas — The New Mexico Junior College Women's Cross Country team began the season with a third-place finish (33 pts) at the LCU Rust Buster Relays Friday evening, held at Lubbock Christian University.
The event featured a unique relay style meet. Each participating school paired their runners, having the pair complete 6 miles, with each runner taking turns running 1.5 miles at separate times. The top three pairs for each school were then scored like a normal cross country meet to give a "Team" champion. Eastern New Mexico scored 13 points and took home top honors followed by meet host, Lubbock Christian with 26 points.
Among the pairs, the NMJC duo of Rose Jebet (Fr. El Doret, Kenya) and Silvia Sosa (So. El Paso, TX) finished 2nd overall with a time of 36.25. Naomi Tanui (So. Lubbock, TX) and Cristal Corrales (So. Lovington, NM) turned a time of 41:41 to finish 13th overall. Rounding out the scoring for the Tbirds was Cassidy Reddell (Fr. Odessa, TX) and Andrea Grant, (Fr. St. Catherine, Jamaica) who finished with a time of 43.12, good for 18th.
Up next for the T-Birds is the Western Texas College Invitational in Snyder, Texas..
