Thunderbird (W-T&F) Enters Day 3 of Nationals in 2nd
The NMJC women's track & field team finished Day 2 of the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships with three individual All-Americans and one individual national champion on Friday, May 15 in Hobbs, NM.
The Thunderbirds are currently in second place with 44.5 points and are behind first place Iowa Western CC who has 64 points. Iowa Central CC is in third place with 32 points.
Tiana Petrova won the outdoor high jump national title for the second straight year. The sophomore cleared 1.69m in windy conditions to secure the NJCAA high jump national title and 10 points. Petrova ends her Thunderbird career as a four-time All-American and a three-time national champion.
Heptathlete Fatima Chefaig finished in fifth place in the heptathlon scoring 4495 points. The freshman earned four points and All-American status.
Sophomore Hadil Chiha finished eighth in the steeplechase with a time of 12:31.73 to earn her first individual All-American medal in her final race as a T-Bird. The Tunisian picked up the final point of the day for NMJC.
The T-Birds have plenty of finals left to compete in on Day 3. Athilia Pryce and Gabriella Tcheukam are set to compete in the discus, Elfie Sanogo-Jastin Guzman-Sofia Mosquera Rodriquez in the triple jump, the 4x100m relay team, Yididiya Bifa in the 1500m & 5000m, Gabriela Anahi Suarez in the 400m & 200m, Charissa December in the 100mH & 400mH, Amal Kachouri-Lindsey Lopes in the 800m, Fatima Chefaig in the 400mH, Lisel Ndlovu-Ines Mrabet in the 5000m, and the 4x400m relay team.
Day 3 will start at 9 a.m. MDT and finishes at 6:15 p.m. MDT.
