T-Birds (W-T&F) Ends Day 1 of Nationals with 4x800m Title
The NMJC women's track & field team ended Day 1 of the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships with five individual All-Americans and one relay national champion squad on Thursday, May 14 in Hobbs, NM.
The Thunderbirds are currently in second place with 29.5 points and are behind first place Iowa Western CC who has 34 points. Vincennes is in third place with 18 points.
The T-Birds made a big splash Thursday night with a 4x800m national championship title. The relay squad of Lindsey Lopes, Nour Bouzidi, Yididiya Bifa, and Amal Kachouri dominated the field with their 8:56.09 finish. The nearest competitor was 10.05 seconds behind the Thunderbirds. NMJC earned 10 points for the finish, and all four runners earned All-American distinction.
Athilia Pryce placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.57m. The sophomore All-American picked up six points for team score with the finish.
Tatiana Bedoya tied for fourth place with a clearance of 3.66m in the pole vault. She earned All-American status and added 4.5 points toward the team total.
Sophomore Ines Mrabet came in fifth place in the 10,000m with a time of 37:54.99. The Tunisian earns her first outdoor All-American medal and puts four points on the board for NMJC.
Freshman Alejandra Sanchez finished in sixth place in the javelin with a throw of 42.90. The Hobbs local earned All-American status and added three points to the team total.
Gabriella Tcheukam recorded a 49.76m mark in the hammer throw to finish in seventh place. The freshman earned All-American honors and added two points to the T-Birds team total.
The Thunderbirds are in second place with 29.5 points headed into Day 2 action.
Day 2 starts at 9 a.m. MDT and ends at 6:15 p.m. MDT. Day 3 will start at 10 a.m. MDT and finishes at 6:15 p.m. MDT.
