T-Bird (W-T&F) Records 7 New National Qualifiers
The Thunderbird women's track & field team competed at the Masked Rider Open April 3 in Lubbock, Texas.
The meet was moved up a few days due to inclement weather in the forecast.
NMJC ended Thursday with two improved qualifiers, and seven new national qualifiers.
Amal Kachouri was the top performer in Lubbock, Texas, nationally qualifying in the 800m. Kachouri finished the race with a time of 2:08.21 to rank No. 1 NJCAA. Jody Ann Mitchell was just behind Kachouri coming in at 2:08.60 in the 800m to rank No. 2 in the NJCAA. Emilly Silva was the third member of the trio to put up a solid time on Thursday finishing with an improved qualifying time of 2:11.08 (NJCAA No. 6).
Sophomore Francesca Alvarado ran personal best in the steeplechase this week to qualify for nationals. The Edinburg, Texas native posted an 11:34.00 in the event to rank No. 9 in the NJCAA.
Kamaria Knight nationally qualified for outdoors in the 200m with a time of 23.90 to come in at No. 11 in the NJCAA for the event. Ines Mrabet met the national standard in the 5000m finishing in 17:56.19 (NJCAA No. 21).
Now over to the field side.
Sophomore Yosiris Cordoba nationally qualified in the discus throwing 50.93m to rank No. 4 in the event. Athilia Pryce was an improved qualifier in the discus with a throw of 45.18m to come in at No. 6 in the NJCAA. Kavel Ritchie long jumped 5.82m, qualifying for nationals in the event to rank No. 8 in the NJCAA.
NMJC is still ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA for the outdoor season according to the new rankings released by the USTFCCCA.
The T-Birds next competition is the Jo Meeker Classic & Multi in Canyon, Texas April 10-12.
