T-Bird (W-Track) Qualifies 8 in Final Meet Prior to Nationals
The NMJC women's track and field team competed Feb. 22-23 at the NMJC Indoor Qualifier in Hobbs, NM.
The Thunderbirds ended the weekend with eight new qualifiers.
Sofia Mosquera Rodriquez was the top performer on Sunday. The freshman jumper leapt 5.84m in the long jump to nationally qualify. Rodriquez is now ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA for long jump.
Athilia Pryce is headed to nationals after qualifying in the shot put on Sunday. The freshman threw 13.03m to earn her spot in Lubbock. Pryce is ranked No. 11 in the NJCAA for the event.
Freshmen sprinters Tuwana McLean and Nalicia Glen both competed in the 60m at the Ross Black Track on Sunday. The duo ran an identical 7.65 in the race to rank No. 29 in the NJCAA for the event.
Sophomore Tyfane Martins nationally qualified in the 600m with a run of 1:36.66. The time is No. 15 in JUCO. Francesca Alvarado met the national standard in the 1000m with a finish of 3:07.70. Alvarado comes in at No. 26 in the NJCAA for the event. Ines Mrabet was not too far behind coming across the line in 3:08.72. Mrabet's finish is No. 38 in the NJCAA for the 1000m.
Lisel Ndlovu was able to reach the national standard in the 3000m on Saturday with a time of 10:49.78 in the race. The finish slots her in at No. 51 in the NJCAA for the event.
The T-Birds are ranked in the top five 13 times across all events and have three relay teams ranked in the top 2 in the NJCAA.
The Thunderbirds remain at No. 1 in the USTFCCCA Track & Field Women's Rating Index.
NMJC is now preparing for the 2025 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas March 7-8 at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
