Thunderbird (W-Golf) Holds Steady in 7th After 54 Holes in Coal Valley
The T-Bird women's golf team stayed in seventh place headed into the final round of the 2026 NJCAA DI Women's Golf Championship.
NMJC moved to 101-over for the week after shooting a 30-over team total of 314 on Day 3.
No. 1 ranked Odessa College leads at 54-over par for the tournament. No. 2 Daytona State is in second place at 56-over. No. 4 Blinn moved up to third place at 93-over. NMJC is just eight shots back of Blinn for trophy position.
Napajira Luesattha of Odessa College and Alana Kutt of Daytona State lead individually at 9-over heading into the final round.
Freshman Tova Sandren had her best round of the week so far recording a 2-over 73 in Round 3 on Wednesday. Sandren was even through her first nine holes with a bogey on No. 2 and a birdie on No. 4. She made two bogeys on the back nine and seven pars on her way to a 2-over 73. The Swede has shot 77-76-73 in 54 holes and is tied for fourth place at 13-over par. She is four shots back of the individual lead.
Giuliana Frutos turned in a 7-over 78 in her third round at Oakwood CC. The lone sophomore this week registered three bogeys, a double and five pars in her opening nine shooting a 5-over 40. She made three bogeys on the back and sprinkled in a birdie to shoot 38 (+2). Frutos's first 54 holes saw her shoot 78-83-78 on her way to a tie for 27th place at 26-over.
Freshman Megan Dawson made her way back into the lineup and shot a 10-over 81 in Round 3. The Chelmsford, England native recorded five bogeys and four pars in her first nine to shoot a 5-over 40. She went bogey-par-par to start her first three holes on the back and then made back-to-back doubles on her next two holes. Dawson recovered with a birdie on No. 15 and bogeyed the last to shoot 10-over for the day.
Sophie Brothwood finished Day 3 with an 11-over 82. She started her round with five straight bogeys followed by five straight pars to sit 5-over through 10 holes. Her back nine featured two doubles, two bogeys, and five pars to end the third round with an 11-over 82. Brothwood has shot 76-82-82 in 54 holes so far and is T-31 at 27-over.
Dear Phermthongmak shot a 13-over 84 in her third round. The Bangkok, Thailand native made birdie on No. 2 but went bogey-par-double-bogey-double-bogey-par over her next seven holes to move to 7-over through nine. She made birdie on No. 10 and was 6-over through 13 holes before she closed with three bogeys and two doubles in her last five holes to end her third round at 13-over.
The T-Birds will make a change subbing out Dear Phermthongmak and subbing in Ella Cornwell for the last round of the nationals.
Tee times for the final round are as follows, Ella Cornwell will tee off on Hole 1 at 8 a.m. CDT, Sophie Brothwood at 8:09 a.m. CDT, Megan Dawson at 8:18 a.m. CDT, Giuliana Frutos at 8:27 a.m. CDT, and Tova Sandren at 8:36 a.m. CDT.
