Thunderbird (W-Golf) is 7th at Nationals After 36 Holes
The T-Bird women's golf team is in seventh place following Round 2 of the 2026 NJCAA DI Women's Golf Championship.
NMJC moved to 71-over for the week after shooting a 40-over team total of 324 on Day 2.
No. 2 Daytona State leads at 41-over par for the tournament. No. 1 Odessa College is in second place at 43-over. No. 5 Eastern Florida State moved up to third place at 58-over.
Napajira Luesattha of Odessa College jumped into the individual lead after shooting 2-over 73 in Round 2 to take a 2-shot advantage at 6-over par.
Tova Sandren led the Thunderbirds today shooting a 5-over 76 in Round 2. The freshman started on the back nine making two bogeys, one double, and three birdies to shoot a 1-over 37. The Swede started her front nine double-bogey-bogey-double before finishing up strong with birdies on No. 7 and No. 9 to shoot a 4-over 39 on the front. The freshman is T-4 in par-5 scoring at 1-under. Sandren shot 77-76 over 36 holes to move into a tie for ninth place at 11-over.
Sophie Brothwood recorded an 11-over 82 in her second round at Oakwood CC. The freshman made five bogeys and four pars on the back to shoot a 5-over 41. She was colorful scorecard wise on the front nine going double-birdie-bogey-double-par through her first five holes. Brothwood closed with two bogeys and two pars to shoot a 6-over 41 on the front. Brothwood is tied for 23rd at 16-over par after shooting rounds of 76-82.
Giuliana Frutos registered a 12-over 83 in Round 2. The sophomore started bogey-bogey-double-bogey through her first four holes. Frutos then made five straight pars to finish the back nine at 5-over (41). Frutos started par-birdie on the front to move to 4-over on the day. She then ran into some trouble down the stretch with four bogeys and a double over her last seven holes to shoot a 7-over 42 on the front. Frutos went 78-83 over her first 36 holes to sit T-35 at 19-over.
Ella Cornwell shot her second consecutive 13-over 84 in Round 2 to slot herself into T-53 position at 26-over. The freshman made three bogeys, a double, and five bogeys to shoot 41 (+5) on the back. The start of the front saw Cornwell go bogey-bogey-double-bogey-birdie. She made two pars and two bogeys the rest of the way to close with an 8-over 43. Cornwell went 84-84 through 36 holes to move into a tie for 53rd place at 26-over.
Dear Phermthongmak subbed in for Megan Dawson in Round 2 following Dawson's opening-round 88. Phermthongmak had a rough start, bogeying eight of her first nine holes and doubling her 10th hole of the day. She was 10-over through 10 holes. The freshman from Thailand leveled out between Holes 2-7 making six consecutive pars. Phermthongmak closed with two straight bogeys to finish with a 12-over 83.
Tee times for Round 3 are as follows, Megan Dawson will tee off on Hole 1 at 9:30 a.m. CDT, Giuliana Frutos at 9:39 a.m. CDT, Dear Phermthongmak at 9:48 a.m. CDT, Sophie Brothwood at 9:57 a.m. CDT, and Tova Sandren at 10:06 a.m. CDT.
