T-Bird (W-Golf) Sits 4th After Round 1 of Nationals
The Thunderbirds are in fourth place following Round 1 of the 2025 NJCAA DI Women's Golf Championship after posting a 26-over team total of 314.
No. 3 Seminole State leads at 10-over par for the tournament. No. 2 Odessa College is on their heels in second at 12-over. No. 1 Daytona State shot 24-over and is in third place.
Abir Taibi of Seminole State leads the tournament individually at even par.
NMJC was led on the course by Hinano Kishida. The sophomore ended her first round in a tie for second place at 2-over par. The Nagano, Japan native started her round with a bang holing a 15-foot putt for birdie to move 1-under.
Kishida went par-bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie-double over her next six holes to drop to 1-over through seven. She made back-to-back pars to go out in 37 (+1). Kishida bogeyed hole 10 and then went par-bogey-par-birdie to sit at 2-over through 14 holes. Kishida made pars the rest of the way to open her nationals with a 2-over 74.
Olivia Heard finished Round 1 in a tie for 20th place at 6-over par. Heard had a tough start to her day going double and then bogey in her first two holes. She birdied hole No. 4 to move to 2-over.
Heard made four consecutive pars and then finished hole No. 9 with a bogey to shoot a 3-over 39 on the front. Heard began the second nine with a par and then went double-bogey to fall to 6-over through 12. The Englishwoman reeled it in over her next six holes making six consecutive pars to finish with a 6-over 78.
Giuliana Frutos posted a solid 8-over in her opening round to sit T-30. The freshman made just two bogeys on her opening nine to start with a 2-over 38 on the front. The back nine was a grind and featured a four-putt double on 12 and bogeys on 14,15,17, and 18 to shoot 42 on the back. Frutos finished with an 8-over 80 in Round 1.
Nanami Hayakawa finished Round 1 in a tie for 43rd place at 10-over. Hayakawa opened with two bogeys but got one back with a birdie on hole No. 6. A double on hole 9 had her shoot a 3-over 39 on the front. The Okaya, Nagano-Japan native started the back birdie-par-double and then made six consecutive bogeys to finish with a 10-over 82.
Wawa Booncharn had a tough day in Garden City. The sophomore shot 12-over in Round 1 to end the day in a tie for 56th place. Booncharn made five bogeys on the front to shoot a 5-over 41. She birdied hole No. 10 and then made six straight bogeys, a par, and a double to finish with a 12-over 84 on Day 1.
Tee times are as follows, Giuliana Frutos will tee off on hole 10 at 10:50 a.m CDT, Nanami Hayakawa at 11 a.m. CDT, Wawa Booncharn at 11:10 a.m. CDT, Olivia Heard at 11:20 a.m. CDT, and Hinano Kishida at 11:30 a.m CDT.
