Quincy Montoya Named CNFR Reserve All-Around Champion
Sophomore Quincy Montoya finished the 2025-26 women's rodeo season as the CNFR Reserve All-Around Champion on Saturday, June 20.
Montoya scored 35 points in the breakaway and 35 points in the goat tying to finish the rodeo with 70 points in the all-around. The cowgirl was a 2.8 and a 2.0 in the breakaway before a no time in the third go to finish in 22nd place. Montoya was a 6.1, 7.5, and 7.6 in three rounds of the goat tying to finish in 20th place.
"Quincy finishing reserve in the all-around is not surprising. She's a strong competitor in both events and she had a strong beginning to the week," NMJC women's rodeo head coach Alexa Wilcox said. "Her horsepower was outstanding and Q went out to dominate, as we saw. The all around is very prestigious in the rodeo world, as the dedication and skill it takes to master more than one event is a big feat. Q finishing reserve champion out of the best in the nation is a testament to her how hard she works. This last week in Casper, she was focused and executed the basics in both events to the best of her ability. She didn't let the big stage get to her and just went and performed how she always does, which is at a high level."
The T-Birds end the 2025-26 season that saw many firsts under third-year head coach Alexa Wilcox.
"This year as a team was a historic one, and I think that helped Quincy. We won women's team championship titles at the region rodeos for the first time in 19 years," Coach Wilcox said. "We had more girls making Short Rounds in all events and we had several event champions. All of that helps push the winners to continue winning. Quincy wasn't happy with her freshman season, and you could tell she came back for this year with winning on her mind. No one is going to outwit Quincy and that's one of her secrets but having the right mix of horse power and our assistant coach Kaytlyn here to help fine tune things in the goat tying really helped. We had Quincy in with a mental performance coach, as well, and I think that helped her find her flow to go make consistent runs at the rodeos. All of that paired with the unwavering support of her family along with her commitment to being the best and never settling really pushed her to that next level."
