Quincy Montoya to Compete at College National Finals Rodeo June 14
Quincy Montoya is set to compete at the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) June 14-20 in Casper, Wyoming.
The events will take place inside the Ford Wyoming Center.
The women's team lone entry is sophomore Quincy Montoya who is competing in both the breakaway roping and goat tying.
Montoya gets underway in the breakaway on Sunday night in Section 6 as the 68th competitor. She will rope in the seventh of nine events which starts at 4 p.m. MDT. Montoya is the fifth event of the Monday morning slack (7 a.m. MDT | Section 1 | Go Round 2) as the No. 2 competitor. Montoya ropes in the third event of Friday's 7 p.m. MDT performance (Go Round 3 | Section 4) as the No. 67 cowgirl.
"What I am most looking forward to heading into Casper is being able to get the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage college rodeo can offer and experience the CNFR atmosphere," Quincy Montoya said. "It's something I've worked towards all year, and I'm so blessed with the opportunity."
Montoya is coming off a fantastic season where she won the all-around for the Caprock Region.
"I need to stay locked in and trust myself and all the preparation I have put in," Montoya said. "At this high of level, I need to stay consistent and disciplined with maintaining a strong mindset and taking advantage of the opportunity knowing that everything will work out how it's supposed to."
Montoya's second event is the goat tying. She starts in Section 2 of Monday's 7 a.m. MDT slack (13th of 14 events) and is No. 52 competitor. She is the No. 5 cowgirl in the 11th event (Go Round 2 | Section 1) during Tuesday morning's 7 a.m. MDT slack. Friday's performance (Go Round 3 | Section 4 | 7 p.m. MDT) sees Montoya as the sixth event of the night and No. 52 goat tyer.
"Being able to compete in two events is an asset, as she'll be able to become comfortable with the arena very quickly," NMJC women's rodeo head coach Alexa Wilcox said. "Quincy has the right horsepower and the right fundamentals to do really well in Casper. She's had a great few weeks of practice and is fully prepared to bring her A-game."
All performances of the CNFR starting Tuesday through Saturday, June 16-20th, 2026, will air on ESPN+.
ESPN+ is available by using the ESPN app, and also available on your computer.
12 individuals make it to the CNFR Short Round with the national champion being the top breakaway roper or goat tyer with the best four-round average. The final takes place Saturday, June 20 at 7 p.m. MDT inside the Ford Wyoming Center.
"The biggest focus for us is to have her be consistent and do the small things correctly," Coach Wilcox said. "We aren't asking her to do anything other than what she does every day in practice. The hardest part about the CNFR is getting qualified - now she can go have fun and show what she's been working for all year."
