Men's Rodeo takes second at ENMU
Bonnett & Burr lead the way
Portales, NEW MEXICO -
On Saturday, September 21, 2015, the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds Men's and Women's Rodeo teams picked up where they left off the 2014-2015 campaign with a strong showing at the Eastern New Mexico Rodeo in Portales, NM.
The men scored 475 points, 6.6 points behind the Texans from Tarelton State (481.6), to finish second while the women finished 6th overall. The men brought home two event Champions in Preston Burr (So. Stratford Texas) and Keely Bonnett (So. Ponoka, AB, Canada) in Saddle Bronc Riding and Steer Wrestling respectively. Burr averaged 149 points to capture the individual championship while Bonnett averaged 9.9 seconds for his title.
The Thunderbirds also received strong performances from James Reed (Fr. Spearman, TX), also in Saddle Bronc Riding as he averaged 142 points to pick up third. Branden Quentin (Fr. Barrhead, AB, Canada split seventh and eigth in steer wrestling (15.8 seconds) while Wyatt Hayes (So. Val Marie, SK, Canada) split ninth and eleventh in Team Roping (7.8 seconds).
Pacing the women was Shelby Spielman (Fr. Dalhart, TX) as she placed seventh (20.7 seconds) in Goat Tying.
