NMJC (M-T&F) Sits 1st Headed into Final Day at Nationals
The NMJC men's track & field team finished Day 2 of the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships with three individual All-Americans and two individual national champions on Friday, May 15 in Hobbs, NM.
The Thunderbirds are currently in first place with 62 points. South Plains is second overall with 51 points and Iowa Central CC is third with 33 points.
Luiz Santos won the decathlon national title Friday afternoon with a score of 7190 points. The freshman won both the heptathlon and the decathlon title in Year 1 at NMJC. He earns All-American honors with the finish and adds 10 points to the team's total.
Aaron McKenzie shocked the spectators in Hobbs, NM coming out of nowhere to win the high jump national title with a personal-best 2.12m jump. The freshman did not score at indoor nationals but made it count on his home turf in the wind earning All-American honors and adding 10 vital points to the Thunderbird team score.
Ronald Jecky finished in eighth place in the steeplechase with a time of 10:09.63. The sophomore earned All-American distinction and a point toward the team's total.
The T-Birds have plenty of finals left to compete in on Day 3. Raits Markus and Marc Delin are set to compete in the discus, Javar Thomas in the triple jump, the 4x100m relay team, Killian LeBourhis in the 1500m, Benjamin Nsiah-Raheim Scott in the 400m, Samalie Farrington-David Nyamufarira-Carlos Brown Jr. in the 100m, Romain Toth in the 800m, and Addiso Bitew-Alexandre Fablet in the 5000m.
Day 3 will start at 9 a.m. MDT and finishes at 6:15 p.m. MDT.
