NMJC (M-T&F) Ready to Host NJCAA Nationals
The T-Bird men's track & field team hosts the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships in Hobbs, NM at Ross Black Field of Champions May 14-16.
Last season, the T-Birds finished runner-up at the 2025 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships in Hutchinson, Kan. The Thunderbirds also finished national runner-up earlier this season at the 2026 NJCAA Indoor T&F Championships in Topeka, Kan.
The men have 36 entries this week. The Thunderbirds are No. 1 in the USTFCCCA Track & Field Men's Rating Index as they head into nationals. The T-Birds last hosted the NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships in 2023. NMJC came out on top that year and took home the national title. The Thunderbirds are looking for that same magic again this season.
The field side has four T-Birds ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA for their event.
Superstar decathlete Luiz Santos leads the decathlon rankings with a score of 7515. Santos is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA, more than 1,000 points ahead of second place, and is the NMJC school record holder.
LeBron James looks to defend his 2025 javelin title this week. The sophomore school record holder is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA with a throw of 75.04m.
Freshman Bastien Cadeot holds the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA for the long jump with a leap of 8.08m. Cadeot won the indoor long jump title with a jump of 7.69m earlier this year. Freshman Marc Delin is ranked No. 1 in the discus throw with a mark of 59.93m.
Samuel Ospina, the 2025 outdoor pole vault national champion, is ranked No. 2 in the event with a 5.30m clearance. He finished national runner-up earlier this year at indoor nationals.
The track side is led by sophomores Benjamin Nsiah and David Nyamufarira.
Benjamin Nsiah is set to compete in the 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and mile relay. Nsiah is ranked No. 4 in both the 200m and 400m for the outdoor season. The Sunyani, Ghana native won the 400m indoor title earlier this year with a 46.19. Nsiah finished in third place with a 46.02 in the 400m at the 2025 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships.
David Nyamufarira will compete in the 100m and 4x100m relay this week. Nyamufarira enters the week ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA for the 100m. The Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe native won his second consecutive 60m indoor title earlier this year. Nyamufarira was third in the 100m at the 2025 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships.
Freshman distance runner Addiso Bitew comes in ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA for the 10,000m with a time of 30:33.59.
There will be three white card entries from NMJC. The white card is essentially a wild card selection for an athlete who did not qualify for nationals, and each team receives three entries to use.
The meet on Day 1 will start with the 10,000m at 7:30 a.m. MDT and ends with the 400m prelims around 9:30 p.m. MDT. Day 2 starts at 9 a.m. MDT and ends at 6:15 p.m. MDT. Day 3 will start at 10 a.m. MDT and finishes at 6:15 p.m. MDT.
