NMJC T-Birds Rank number 1 Week 5

NEW ORLEANS – We're less than three weeks from the start of the 2021 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Levelland, Texas. Let's take a look at the most recent installment of the NJCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index, which was released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

New Mexico JC is the top dog in the nation after putting together an outstanding weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The T-Birds received a national-leading mark from Baptiste Depril-Dupre in the 1500 with an altitude-converted 3:49.14, while Diamante Gumbs notched a pair of national top-10 marks in the throws (Gumbs is now ranked fourth in the discus and ninth in the shot put). Barton County CC held steady at No. 2. The Cougars also had a big weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open with Ja'Kwan Hale taking over the NJCAA lead in the 400H at an altitude-converted 51.00, while Denzel Feagin is now ranked second in the 200 at an altitude-converted 20.51 and the duo of Gamali Felix and Jevon O'Bryant sit No. 2 and No. 4 on the seasonal chart in the 400, respectively. South Plains (Texas) moved up one spot from No. 4 to No. 3. The Texans received national-leading efforts from Khaleb McRae in the 400 (45.82c) and Seydi Sall in the 800 (1:49.69), while Romaine Beckford and Paxton Hair took over the No. 6 and No. 7 spots in the javelin and discus, respectively. Former No. 1 Cloud County CC fell three spots to No. 4, right in front of Iowa Central CC, which remained the fifth-ranked team for yet another week. Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 5: No. 6 Iowa Western CC, No. 7 Coffeyville CC, No. 8 Cowley College, No. 9 Indian Hills CC and No. 10 Vincennes University.
