T-Bird (M-Golf) Moves to 5th Place After 36 holes in Newton
The NMC men's golf team moved up one spot into fifth place after recording a 5-over team total of 293 in Round 2 of the 2025 NJCAA Men's Golf National Championship.
The T-Birds (+6) are 12 shots back of the first round leader Midland College (-6).
Second place is Odessa College at 5-under, third place is Hutchinson CC at 4-over, and fourth place is Indian Hills at 5-over.
Adam Bresnu of Odessa College made the big move into individual lead following a 5-under 67 in Round 2. Bresnu closed his last five holes at 6-under par. He is three shots clear of second place's Charlie Box.
Elias Pettersson was the top performer for the T-Birds on Wednesday as he shot an even-par 72 and is now in a tie for 21st place at 1-over. Pettersson was 3-under through the first eight holes before dropping a shot on hole No. 9. He bogeyed 10 and then made five straight pars before ending his final three holes birdie-bogey-bogey to shoot 72.
Henry Drake shot a 1-over 73 to slot T-21 at 1-over after 36 holes. The sophomore was topsy-turvy in his first nine holes. The Englishman made three birdies, three pars, two bogeys, and a double to shoot a 1-over 37. Drake birdied 10 and bogeyed 17 to end up even on the back and turn in a 1-over 73 on the scorecard.
Oliver Ruutu shot a 3-over 75 in Round 2 and sits at 3-over for the tournament in a tie for 31st place. Ruutu was 2-under through his first five holes and then made back-to-back bogeys on No. 6 and No. 7 to end his first nine at even with a 36. The back nine started off with two straight bogeys. He dropped one more shot on 17 to shoot 3-over on the back and post a 3-over 75.
PJ Herron had a bounce-back day on the course with a 1-over 73 that moved him up into a tie for 36th at 4-over par. Herron began his day with a bogey on No. 1 as he added another bogey on No. 7 to shoot 2-over on the front. The freshman dropped another shot on 13 to go to 3-over for the round. Herron made two straight birdies on 17-18 to close his round and shoot a 1-over 73.
Jake Yrene took a step back in Round 2 shooting a 5-over 77 and now sits T-42 at 5-over. Yrene made the turn at 1-over after two bogeys and a birdie on the front nine. The 10th hole is where things fell apart. Yrene recorded a quadruple bogey on the par-5 to fall to five over on the day. The freshman made bogeys on 12-13 to drop to 7-over. Yrene's two straight birdies on 15-16 ended the day on a bright note as he finished with a 5-over 77 in Round 2.
Tee times for Round 3 are as follows from hole 1, Jake Yrene will tee off at 11:50 a.m CDT, PJ Herron at 12 p.m. CDT, Oliver Ruutu at 12:10 p.m. CDT, Henry Drake at 12:20 p.m. CDT, and Elias Pettersson at 12:30 p.m CDT.
