Sanders leads Tbirds past Odessa
Odessa, TEXAS
GAME 1
NMJC defeated Odessa College 10-7 in seven innings behind the hitting of Zac Sanders, who collected three hits in the game.
He tripled in the third inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings.
Alex Pinedo recorded the win for the Thunderbirds even though he allowed seven runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered five hits.
The top of the first saw NMJC take an early lead, 2-0. Jeff Deimling tripled, scoring Travon Benton after a single by Benton got things started. The final run of the inning came when Deimling scored on a passed ball.
It didn't take long for Odessa College to respond as it scored two runs of its own in the first scoring on a two-run double by Brenton Rhodes.
The Thunderbirds took the lead for good in the second scoring one run on a solo home run by Larry Leitha.
NMJC added four more runs in the top of the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Deimling singled, bringing home Jimmy Cubillos. That was followed up by Sanders' 2-run triple, plating Benton and Deimling.
The lead increased with two runs in the fifth. A clutch error allowed Jesse Becton to score to open the frame. That was followed up by an Angel De Jesus single, scoring Leitha.
Four runs in the bottom of the fifth helped Odessa College close its deficit to 10-6. which wasn't enough.
Sean Maher came in to close it out and induced an inning-ending strike out from Duncan.
GAME 2
The Thunderbirds scored five runs in the seventh to cap an 11-3 win over Odessa College.
NMJC Thunderbirds scored in the seventh on a two-run single by Matt Martin, a sacrifice fly by Kody Russell, and a sacrifice fly by Luis Pintor.
Martin racked up three RBIs on two hits for NMJC Thunderbirds.
Roberto Delgado struck out 14 hitters en route to the win. Delgado allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks over nine innings.
NMJC Thunderbirds never surrendered the lead after the fifth inning, scoring five runs on a three-run home run by Travon Benton and an RBI single by Angel De Jesus.
