NMJC's Cave named NJCAA National Player of the Week
The Farmington native had 4 HRs, 12 RBI during week
HOBBS, N.M. — New Mexico Junior College outfielder Jacy Cave's outstanding week was rewarded as the Farmington native was tabbed the NJCAA Player of the Week on Thursday for the week of Feb. 9-15.
The sophomore hit .600 in five games (12-for-20) with four home runs, a triple, a double, 12 RBI, seven runs and three stolen bases as the 19th-ranked T-Birds went 5-0 during that stretch.
Cave hit two home runs in a game twice during the week, including blasting two in the same inning during an 18-4 win over Trinidad State Junior College on Saturday at Ray Birmingham Thunderbird Field in Hobbs.
For the season Cave is hitting .432 with five home runs, 16 RBI, 13 runs and four stolen bases. The Piedra Vista grad has a hit in 10 of the T-Birds' 13 games on the season.
NMJC (8-5) returns to action Friday at a tournament hosted by Weatherford College in Weatherford, Texas.
