The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team used a strong second half to beat Midland 68-58 Monday night. The Thunderbirds led 29-28 at the break, then outscored Midland 39-30 in the second half. Shawn Olden led the Thunderbirds with a team-high 17 points while Roosevelt Smart chipped in 15. Damontrez Hawes and Xabier Gomez each had 10 points. Nnamdi Okoro and Olden each had seven rebounds for NMJC.
With the win, NMJC improves to 16-5 on the season and 4-3 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference action. The T-birds will be back on the hardwood on Thursday when the travel to Frank Phillips college for a 7:30 p.m. start.
